Poll: Clinton Leads Among Hispanics in Key Battleground States

A new poll of Hispanic voters in several key battleground states show Hillary with a significant lead among Hispanic voters. The poll is by the Florida Atlantic University Business and Economic Polling Initiative. The press release is here and the poll results are here.

The states are: Florida, Ohio, Nevada, Colorado and North Carolina. Some interesting points before we get to the numbers:

  • Clinton leads Trump among younger Hispanic voters (18 to 34 years old) in all five states by a range of 24 to 45 points. Clinton is also winning among Hispanic Independents in every state except Ohio.
  • Trump suffers from a very unfavorable image in every state, faring worst in Colorado with nearly 80 percent of Hispanics having an unfavorable opinion of him. Trump’s highest favorable rating is in Florida at 33 percent. Clinton has more than 50 percent of favorable ratings among Hispanics in every state except Florida, where she is at 49 percent.

  • Hispanics in every state view Clinton as the better candidate to handle all the major election issues they were polled on, including: the economy, education, terrorism/national security, healthcare, immigration and treatment of minorities.

Now the numbers:

  • Hispanic voters comprise 19% of Florida voters. Hillary leads among them 53% to 34%.
  • 23% of Nevada's voters are Hispanic. Hillary leads Trump 54% to 25% (Obama led by more in the last two elections.)
  • 15% of Colorado voters are Hispanic. Hillary is leading Trump 68% to 16%.
  • 4% of Ohio voters are Hispanic. Hillary leads Trump 51% to 99%. And in North Carolina, where 5% of the voters are Hispanic, Clinton leads among Hispanic voters 57% to 29%. Keep in mind, however, Obama lost North Carolina in 2012 with 76% of the Hispanic vote.

As to the poll source:

The Florida Atlantic University Business and Economic Polling Initiative conducts surveys on business, economic, political and social issues with a focus on Hispanic attitudes and opinions at regional, state and national levels via planned monthly national surveys.

But Will They Show Up to Vote? (5.00 / 1) (#3)

    Read this sobering NYTimes story.
    27 Million Potential Hispanic
    Votes. But What Will
    They Really Add Up To?
For decades, political analysts have heralded the Latino
vote as a "sleeping giant" that will solidify Democrats' hold
on power. But in cycle after cycle, turnout remains dismal.

Question for a large segment of the population, not just Latinos.
Millennial vote, and the young black vote, turnout for both both is predicted to be less than the Obama model.
Many establishment Republicans are said to be leaving the Presidential line open this November, and just voting down ticket.
Madame Sec has the turnout operation advantage, but will they have to drag them to the polls.

A sad and very strange election.

who can predict? Democrats have never had a candidate like Hillary with decades long friendship with the Hispanic community.

Much to my consternation, Hillary knocked the stuffing out of Obama with Latinos in the 2008 Primary.

My theory as to one reason is the effect on many Latinos of a powerful Mother figure who helps the pobrecitos.  Especially  those with Mexican heritage.

Also, the Clintons are remembered fondly.

The Cincinnati Enquirer, endorsed the Democratic presidential nominee for the first time in 100 years.  Trump was described as "a clear and present danger to the country." The endorsement, entitled "It has to be Hillary Clinton," states that its reservations about Mrs. Clinton pale in comparison to their fears about Trump.

The endorsement praises Mrs. Clinton's experience, leadership, inclusive campaign, and her efforts over a 40-year period on behalf of children and women.
