CBO Report in On Repbulican Health Care Law, It's Bad

The CBO report on the Republican health care bill that passed the House is in and it is bleak.

A bill to dismantle the Affordable Care Act that narrowly passed the House this month would increase the projected number of people without health insurance by 14 million next year and by 23 million in 2026, the Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday. That 10-year figure is slightly less than originally estimated.

Rather than trying to fix it, the Senate should just kill it.

We will all be placed back into the healthcare (5.00 / 1) (#6)

Crisis that spawned Obamacare. Coverage will become spotty, insurers will go back to denying us all for trivial reasons. The hell starts all over again.

Just having insurance doesn't mean it's good insurance. 23 million will lose coverage, how many of us will receive much degraded benefits?

... being questioned by journalists today about the just-released CBO report on the AHCA. When the Guardian's Ben Jacobs attempted to ask Montana Republican congressional candidate Greg Gianforte about it at the latter's campaign HQ in Bozeman, the candidate physically assaulted the reporter in front of several witnesses.

Per the just-released audio of the incident, Gianforte can be heard body-slamming Jacobs -- apparently breaking the reporter's glasses in the process -- while simultaneously yelling at him, "I'm sick and tired of you guys!" Gianforte then orders Jacobs to leave, while Jacobs says he's calling the police.

Buzzfeed reporter Alexis Levinson, who witnessed the altercation, reported it in real time on Twitter: "All of the sudden I head a giant crash and saw Ben's feet fly in the air as he hit the floor."

Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin has since confirmed that his department has opened up an investigation into the incident, and that deputies were taking statements from eyewitnesses. Gallatin was allowed to depart the scene in a car with aides after being questioned by deputies, and his campaign's final "Meet and Greet" event tonight has reportedly been cancelled.

Montana's special election, in which Gianforte is facing off against Democrat Rob Quist to fill the state's lone U.S. House seat recently vacated by current Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, is being held tomorrow. Really good timing there, guy.

The AHCA has brought out the very worst in Republicans.

    Republicans!"

Donald, I usually agree with you but not here. The worst is always yet to come when one is dealing with the Republican party. I thought Reagan was bad, and then came GWB and now Trump.

The modern Republican party keeps sinking a little further into the abyss every second!

UPDATE: GOP candidate charged with assault. (none / 0) (#7)

On the eve of Montana's special congressional election for the state's lone U.S. House seat, millionaire Republican candidate Greg Gianforte has been charged with misdemeanor assault after he allegedly attacked Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs on Wednesday afternoon and threw him to the ground.

Tonight the editors of the Billings Gazette, Montana's largest newspaper, took the extraordinary step of public rescinding their endorsement of Gianforte in the wake of this deplorable incident. Let's hope the state's voters also do the right thing tomorrow by electing Rob Quist.

It's pretty clear from listening to the audio recording of the incident that Gianforte completely lost both his temper and his composure upon being asked a simple question about today's CBO score of the GOP's AHCA bill. He's emotionally unstable and temperamentally unfit to hold public office. At the very least, he could probably benefit from anger management counseling.

    Aloha.

That's what you get when you are required to defend the indefensible.

You can either turn it inward and harm yourself, or turn it outward and harm other people.

    The GOP in meltdown mode.

Of course, there is always the option to stop and listen to your conscience. Jiminy Cricket, where are you???

seem Trumpcare is pretty much DOA. I don't see how the senate passes anything unless they basically rename Obamacare Trumpcare but then it dies in the house.

should be DOA, but sanguine expectations  may not be in order.  Unless and until McConnell has a concern other than not yet seeing the necessary votes, we need to consider Trumpcare as being what the Republican House has given birth.

The senate has been "working" on its own version under cover of darkness.  It is easier to find out where our nuclear submarines are located than what is going on in the senate deliberations.

Health care is almost 20 percent of our economy and effects all Americans. However, the senate (like the House) has not had a single hearing on whatever it is they are considering.

The seemingly unhinged and thuggish Montana billionaire assaulted a reporter over the CBO report; we can depend on the Republican senate (like the House) to assault the truth contained in the CBO report.

Paul Ryan stands by his spawn as being just what was planned, lower premiums and lower deficit.   And, unsaid, the real plan to cut taxes on high incomes.  Cutting health care coverage for the poor/middle classes so as to provide tax cuts for the wealthy requires trickery and deceit.

A lot is riding on Trumpcare for these Republicans, and they want nothing worthwhile to emerge.  And, then there is Trump.

Republicans now own Healthcare.  No one except the possibly the 25% or so of the mouthbreathing Trumpers who will literally believe anything are confused about that.

IMO they are screwed either way.  If they pass it they are screwed.  If they don't pass it they are screwed.

Me, I'm betting they, the senators, are going to go with screwing the house and saving themselves by passing either nothing (likely) or something with absolutely no chance of being reconciled with the freedumb caucus.

could care less about what the house does. Maybe their pass their own version and maybe they don't. Will the free dumbers take a bullet for the senate version if it comes to that? I never thought the so called moderates would take a bullet but they did.

So until further notice I have embraced the KeysDan reality. Healthcare has been dealt a horrible crippling blow and Americans are in grave danger until further notice.
