Talk Left Appreciation Day

Do you like what Talk Left does? Do you like Jeralyn's writings on crime issues and politics? Will you enjoy her on the spot coverage of the Democratic Convention in August? Will you follow our live blogging of tomorrow's DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting about the Michigan/Florida travesty? Do you like TChris' stellar work on civil liberties, the law and the rights every person should enjoy? Do you like the trouble I stir up? Do you enjoy the community atmosphere Talk Left provides for reasoned discussion?

Well, it costs Jeralyn a fair amount of money to operate this web site. Much more than before as more and more and more readers come to see what's up and participate at Talk Left. If you like what you are reading and writing, please give Jeralyn a hand in paying for the upkeep. Here is how you can donate:

please know how much I appreciate TL's island of sanity in an ocean that grows more insane and dysfunctional by the day.

Always good information, fairness, balance, respect, honesty, crackling with intelligence and wit - and supported by a great group of commenters, whose thoughts and humor I greatly value.

    Best blog going!

Obama asked me not to contribute to Progressive 527's and other Progressive media so I could send all my money to his control freak campaign.

Maybe I can send some money mid November after he loses. But hang in there and keep up the good work.

If we behave, can we still come here?  I don't think I could stand it without the TL brain trust.  Wow.  Honestly, you guys have challenged us and made us all better thinkers and better consumers of news.  We had our snarky moments and our rants, but you kept us in line and civil.  This format is awesome and it takes a lot of work and I appreciate it.  I actually feel sorry for people who did not experience the intensity of the primary with you all.

It would be brilliant if BTD and Jeralyn did a book of this primary.  The two perspectives and the blow by blow of the 50 states.

What is amazing is that now after a daily dose of Somerby and you guys, you cannot just read, watch or listen to news the same old way.

    Thank you guys.

When I came to TL, I was searching for a reasonable political discussion group.  I was not aware, at the time, that it is really a group for 'legal'types which happens to be caught up in the election politics.  I'm not sure if I have enough interest in legal cases to hang around when this is over.

I remember when Dan Abrams was a legal commentator.  I couldn't set through an hour of his show back then.  Just didn't have the interest.  Maybe if I hang around long enough, I can develop it.

So I went to my monthly budget spreadsheet and figured out where I can shift money from to donate to TL.

Here it goes: My all entertainment budget is yours, I am glued to my laptop since I found your site and not spent anything on movies, saved on eating out, saved in the printed news columns, etc., etc.

My month of May saving cheque will be on the mail on the 31th.  June will follow, etc.

I don't comment much, since I seem (generally) to be about 8 hours behind everyone else, but I really enjoy both the front pagers and the regular participants in the comments.  I'm also especially appreciative that y'all police the comments as you do.  It's so nice to have a civil oasis where differing viewpoints are allowed by trolling and chattering isn't.

by flashman on Fri May 30, 2008 at 10:49:48 AM EST
But since you asked, one thing about this blog disturbs me, and that is that the site 'officials' don't seem to be able to follow their own rules when it comes to the discussion threads.  Particularly, I'm disturbed when they call someone an 'idiot' or say someone is 'delusional.'  That seems to be a clear violation of the site rules that the rest of us are bound by.

Nothing wrong with the above options, but since I get a lot of stuff at Amazon it's easier for my books.

My donation yardstick is to consider to multiply how much entertainment and brain food I get by the amount of Pepto Bismal I save and through in a coupl'a few bux extra for what I'd otherwise be putting in the cuss jar.

I was a lifetime member of the Dailykos until the Obamorons there required anyone speaking negatively about Obama to be very apologetic or give up and join them to attacking Hillary.  For those who didn't, and there were very few left by the end of April, troll ratings came like rain showers and I ultimately got auto-banned.  Of course there was nobody left to agree with me or they were afraid of the rath of the idiots, so my mojo went down.

I will not miss that horrible palce because I lost so much respect for them..except for Meteor and a few others.  What makes me angry is that I want my $100 lifetime membership fee back and when I ask for it, I get no response.  That is how low Markos has fallen.  I wrote to him, the tech support person and Susan G and maybe Meteor and never got a response from anyone.  I believe if you take away someone's right to post diaries and comments, your money should be refunded.  Perhaps the DNC should be required to refund every penny that came in from Florida residents during this nominating process.

I would love to give Talk Left that $100.  So if you have any connections with those people and you have a way to get it back for me or better still, transfer to TalkLeft, for which you have my permission, I would greatly appreciate it.

modest contribution.  The comment board is moderated fairly and people mostly tend to make allowance for semi-unpopular minority positions within the pro-Hillary sector, such as certain posters' annoying harping on Sibelius for VP.

As for Obot Donald Sutherland, it's worth reminding that he did succumb to the pod in that late 70s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, so being a pod person for Barack is just a reprise of a role he's already tackled successfully.

Overall, however, it pains me somewhat to concede that he's probably done enough positive in the creative realm to avoid calls for his deportation back to Canada.

appreciation request ever since I registered. I know that providing accurate news reports along with your personal commentary is time-consuming and costly, but I truly appreciate all that you do to make it happen.

It's a small price to pay to have people with integrity and good writing skills to distill the many news items and then present their personal commentary. Your commentary on the news is what keeps me coming back, along with the lively and informed (mostly) debate by the readers.

Thanks to Jeralyn, BTD, other contributors and reader comments. I love to read the different points of view.
